Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  5. Beat in the flour, cocoa, and salt until well combined.
  6. Fold in the walnuts or chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
