Tomato Basil Pizza Dough

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Make a well in the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  4. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface.
  8. Transfer it to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  9. Spread the chopped tomatoes and sprinkle basil on top.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
